We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised by MasterCard in its Mobile Top App Index listing the 19 best apps in various shopping categories across Europe, for not one but two major retailing applications – Mothercare and The Body Shop. The winners were announced at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Of the 19 apps selected, only five were from the UK, which means that NN4M developed 40% of the top UK shopping apps on the list.

“This is incredible recognition from MasterCard who are such a force in world commerce.” said Jonathan Heap, CTO at NN4M. “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised in this way.”

The MasterCard Top App Index identifies the best mobile shopping apps in 19 categories from across 36 European countries. A group of experts commissioned by MasterCard downloaded and tested all publicly available mobile shopping applications in 36 European countries. Using a pre-designed questionnaire, 57 apps were shortlisted (three per category). A panel of mobile experts then evaluated the shortlisted applications in order to select the Top App in each of the 19 categories.

MasterCard commended The Body Shop for its “simple and straightforward design [that] makes browsing, finding and buying the desired products easy, while many added extras – including video tutorials, store locator, barcode scanner and a wish list – make the app fun to use.”

MasterCard also praised Mothercare’s layout, categorisation, wish list, order delivery tracker and checkout as well as its many extra features that make it interesting and useful for young mothers and mothers-to-be. According to the evaluation, the “baby name finder, a checklist for different stages of pregnancy and collection of relaxing baby tunes make the app good to have even when shopping is not on one’s to-do list.”
